UMS SKELDAR has announced that its SKELDAR V-200 UAS (unmanned aerial system) has been selected as the base system for the Canadian Armed Forces’ new enhanced situational awareness capability. QinetiQ has been awarded a C$51m (c£30m) contract to deliver the project from its state-of-the-art unmanned vehicle manufacturing and operational facilities in Medicine Hat, Alberta. UMS SKELDAR will supply the aircraft of the same name, which will serve as a sensor carrier. With a maximum take-off weight of 234 kg, the device can carry a payload of 50 kg with an flight-endurance of five hours for reconnaissance and identification tasks. After system tests on land and preparation for operation on board, the two aircraft UMS Skeldar turned to Scanfil during its industrialization phase to find a partner that could help them take this highly advances machine to serial production and ramp up the needed volume production capability.
